Blijf op de hoogte en volg Ido

Na een haastige post vorige week kan ik ondertussen bevestigen dat omstandigheden niet heel veel veranderd zijn. Ik rol zo gemiddeld rond 8 uur mijn bed uit om de shuttlebus van 9 uur te pakken. Vervolgens kom ik zo ergens rond 11 (in de avond) eens een keer terug. Begrijp me niet verkeerd; ik geniet van elke minuut en verveel me geen seconde. Ik heb de hele dag leuke mensen om hen heen, of interessante docenten voor mijn neus. Hopelijk biedt dit enige verklaring voor een lichtelijk gebrek aan punctualiteit van deze blog.
Even terugkijken op de afgelopen week:
Ik heb een aantal internationale en Ierse studenten hier Nederlands geleerd (lees: poging gedaan tot). Dit was middels een workshop die ik heb opgezet als 'fundraiser' voor de dansgroep, aangezien een trip naar Dublin natuurlijk niet gratis is. Het is best interessant wat Amerikanen maken van onze klinkers en intonatie (lees: hilarisch).
Over dansen gesproken, laat ik daar wat meer over vertellen dan 'dat bestaat'. Er is een 'Intervarsities' danswedstrijd op nationaal niveau in Dublin op 2 maart. Met een groep van 26 doen we mee in de 'Mix' categorie. Het wordt een 7 minuten lange routine met echt Allerlei verschillende stijlen door elkaar gegooid. Ballet, modern, lyrical, hiphop, Iers en een beetje cha cha allemaal soepel van de een door in de ander. Gelukkig mag ik me beperken tot de stijlen waar ik wel wat mee kan, want geloof me: mijn arabesque is echt niet op niveau. Veel repetitie, en een set van ruwweg tien nummers die nog HEEL lang in mijn hoofd blijven zitten denk ik zo. Natuurlijk is het wel een fantastisch leuke, hard werkende groep, en ik ben blij hier zo halsoverkop in bij betrokken te zijn geraakt.
Ook in het weekend heb ik geen tijd om me te vervelen. Zaterdag hebben wij met de International Society een bustour gedaan rond de Ring of Kerry. Volgens sommigen het thuis van de mooiste uitzichten in heel Ierland. Of het klopt? Geen idee, het wast erg mistig.
Als dat klinkt als de anticlimax van de week dan ja, dat was het. Maar er is een foto rondgegaan in de bus waarop te zien was hoe het eruit zou zien als we verder dan 10 meter hadden kunnen kijken. Desalniettemin is de internationale groep erg gezellig, en met een zingende buschauffeur hebben we er zeker een leuke dag van gemaakt.
Verspreid over al deze gebeurtenissen en dingen is natuurlijk ook een gezonde hoeveelheid Guinnes genuttigd in de verscheidene pubs hier. Maar dat leek me vrij vanzelfsprekend.

PS: De film Deadpool vorige week was absoluut FANTASTISCH.

Right,
After a hasty post last week I can now confirm that circumstances have not changed by much. On average I roll out of bed around 8 o' clock in order to get the shuttlebus that leaves at 9. After that I come back home around 11 (in the evening). Don't misunderstand me; I enjoy every minute of it and I'm not bored for a single second. I'm surrounded by lovely people throughout the day, or have interesting lecturers in front of me. Hopefully this offers some explanation about the lack of punctuality of this blog.
A look back at the past week:
I taught Dutch to a bunch of Irish and international students (read: made an attempt to). This through means of a workshop I set up as a fundraiser for the dancing group, seeing as a trip to Dublin isn't exactly free. It's quite interesting what Americans make of our vowels and intonation (read: hilarious).
Speaking of dancing, allow me to tell a bit more about that aside from 'it exists'. There is an Intervarsities dancing competition on a national level in Dublin op the 2nd of March. With a group of 26 we are taking part in the 'Mix' category. It will be a 7 minute long routine with a Lot of different styles thrown in. Ballet, modern, lyrical, hip hop, Irish and a tiny bit of cha cha all flow neatly from one into the other. Luckily I can just stick to the styles I can actually work with, because believe me: my arabesque is very far from being on level. A lot of rehearsals, a set of roughly ten songs that will remain stuck in my head for a VERY long time I expect. Of course it is still a wonderful, hard working group, and I'm glad to have gotten involved with is as head over heels as I have.
I the weekends there is no time to get bored either. On Saturday we went on a bus tour around the Ring of Kerry with the International Society. According to some the home of some of the most breathtaking views in the whole of Ireland. Is that true? I have no clue, It was very foggy.
If that sounds like the anticlimax of the week, then yes, it was. We did, however, pass around a picture through the bus where we could see the view we would have been able to see if we had been able to see further than ten metres. Nevertheless, the international group is very nice, and with a singing bus driver we made a great day out of it anyway.
Spread out across the events and stuff a healthy amount of Guinness has of course been consumed in the many pubs here. But that should to go without saying.
